Learning to Crawl Before I Walk

EvilOrly’s Poker Journey

Well what can I say…I lost $87.72 in the last 2 days, 34 on UB and 53 on Full Contact Poker. Today, the first hand I played on FCP I lost a buy -in…im not happy. I am not titlting  in a steaming way, just pretty fuckin’ depressed.  I am now negative money on my goal.

Shorty

Well my session was cut short last night. My daughter thought I should play with her most the night instead, so I guess that comes first. I will tell you how my session went though. I got hit in the face with the deck. I wish I can say my leet skills made me money but that is not the case. I am at work right now o I would look in PT to give you numbers on how many times I got premium hands. I got AA and KK and AK constantly on 4 tables. I also hit quads twice…and this is all within a 30 minute period. I did get sucked out on twice but they were by short stacks and I can’t complain because I racked up anyway.

I also had the fortune that people did call me even if I went all-in. This one hand I have to discuss, it just got set up perfectly. I got sucked out on AK vs JT, flopped my aces he rivered the straight. Anyway 2 hands later I get QQ. The same guy limps and I go all in. I figure this was perfect because if he was thinking at all he probably thought I was just tilting, and so he called. I can’t even remember right off hand what he called with, I don’t remeber it being to good of a hand. I busted him, got my money back plus some.

So thats about it, alot happened within such a short time. I wish every session could be just like this.

No Title

Well I am doing as Titans suggested and I am going to try Full Contact Poker.  I sent in a cashout request for a few hundred to UB, unfortunatley they are not the fastest when it comes to cashing out. This mean no FCP just yet. Last night I had to work late and didn’t have a good feeling about playing so I sat around and watched TV with what little time I had before bed and donked around in some O8. I have read some articles on the game and believe I have a feel for good starting hands but I’m still not winning enough in the pennies to try a half decent game. I do see where this is game is of great value. Even in the 1/2 cent PLO8 games people were winning dollars instead of cents. I have been talking to a few people on cardrunners and I think they are going to help me out some in learning this game.

Well I am about to start a session, I will get back with ya’ll later..

Week’s End

Well this week is almost over. I didn’t hit my 3500 hands goal but I did have a rough time fitting in some play. This weekend I did have more time but could not find a good table selection so I settled on some SnGs and MTT’s. I cashed in most my SnGs and only played one MTT that I didn’t do anything in. I also went above the $100 mark but not my $150 goal. I may play more this evening or I may not, depends on how I feel.

I also sat in on part of Jennifear’s SnG Clinic. I only sat through one SnG and quit. This was for a few reasons. One she was starting a 45man SnG next and I really didn’t want to sit through that. Another is I did not agree with much of what she had to say. I went in open minded but seeing what was going on I could not accept it. I heard she was LAG which I can deal with (I am TAG), but when she limps in with J2 UTG and catches 2 pair on the flop and calls that a good play I have to draw a line. Also she was doing this through an MSN chatroom and it was annoying trying to read and watch the game at the same time.

What else do I have to say…I am feeling weak again in my NL cash game play. I am not losing buy-ins like a month ago but I feel like I am making it to easy for people to play against me when I have nothing and I know they have nothing as well. Maybe thats what I should be doing but it feels like I am leaking money through a pinhole. What I need to do sometime soon is camtasia some of my sessions and have you guys critique the play. This way I can see if I really am being to weak or not.

Thanks

Small Update

It has been a rough few days when it comes to fiting some poker in. Today I have the house all to myself for awhile ao I am working hard. Finding enough tables at UB is rough at this time of day. I’ll be back later with some real updates.

Tough 2 Days to Play Poker

The last two days were rough on trying to play. Wed. I came in and my computer was screwed up so I worked on it a while. Got it going and started to play and I just couldn’t get going. I could feel it wasn’t going to be a great night so I called it quits after I bled $20. No bad beats or anything, just slow bleeding. Last night was that $5k freeroll put on by UB for customers who had problems. The automatically registered people so of course a ton of people did not show up. Thinking that was a good thing, it really wasn’t. I started at a table where three of us were present and we decided to take turns taking blinds. An hour later we finally busted the table and was up roughly 4k chips while the average stack was suppose to be around 2k. I got moved to another table, 3 of us were there. One guy wanted to share the blinds with me but the other was an asshole who wouldn’t and of course I didn’t catch any cards to play against him. They also had about 10k chips apiece. This table broke fast and I ended up at a table with 4 people present including myself. These guys were playing for real and so I had no choice, out chipped 3 to 1 I had to make moves. I finally got to move in with pocket 88, I got called bu pocket 77 and he drew out the straight. GG me. Looking back I would have prefered either everyone was present and I could have played normal or UB gave us a ticket to register with and then again everyone in the freeroll would have been playing.

I got to play a small amount before the freeroll and was up some.

Week 2 : Day 2

I got a late start tonight, My workout at the gym ran late, Big brother came on an hour later and the WSOP main event was on as well, so I took some time and watched those shows.

Well I came out a profit today, not a huge one but it is profit. Now what stopped me from making a huge profit was small stacks. Everytime I got the goods and got to go in they had a short stack. These people really are annoying. I also played up to 6 tables today. As the tables died off I closed them out and made sure 4 kept running. This is actually doing two things to help me out. A. It is getting me more hands right from the start and B. Once the tables die off and I am running four it doesn’t feel very hectic anymore. So I believe it is helping up my number of tables I can play for long periods of time.

Im sorry my posts have been so short lately and I haven’t been posting hands. I have been running out of time and I will try to get back to those things.

Here are today’s results.

1 session for 1 hour

495 Hands

Profit $16.17

Now my weekly profit to the side wont add up right if you add yesterday and today, that is because I got a rakeback payment($36). I added that in before tonight’s winings.

Thanks for stopping by.

Week 2

I started week 2 last night. I wish it could say I started off as exciting as it did last wee, but it didn’t. The night was pretty lackluster. I did however play up to 5 tables. This was not as bad as I had thought. It felt about the same as 4 tables. Here is a quick rundown.

2 sessions 2 hours.

803 hands

Profit $4.81

My VPIP continues to be low, in the lower teens. I still think it is too low and I need a little opening up. I also have a hard time playing a hand that has been raised preflop. I been folding everything but JJ,QQ,KK,AA,AK to a raise preflop.

I got some news on the UB freeroll that they entered me in for Thursday. It has a prizepool of $5k! Pretty nice, I am definatly going to give it a shot. 1st Takes down a little over $1k in prize money.

End of Week One

It is now early Monday morning, 7 days have gone by since I started the new challenge. I ended up $105+ up. I sau “+” because my rakeback hasn’t been updated since Thursday so I have a few more dollars to add on. I didn’t make my goal of $150 but I am still happy. This is probably one of the better weeks for profit I have had and shows me that I can make my goal with a little more work. I didn’t get to play one day last week because of an internet outage and that could have made the difference right there ( could have put me in the hole too lol).

Anyway I am going to go ahead and withdraw $100 even though I said I wouldn’t unless I made the full 150. I figure this way it will help keep my wife off my back for spending more time than I normally do on the game. I don’t think she ‘gets it’ yet. I don’t think she understands how this could really help us out. I am hoping a few withdrawls will help drive the point home and let her see this is real money and not just play chips. It does kill me though to withdraw it lol, looking at my BR now it is bigger than I have ever had it.

Tonight starts the second week, wish me luck.

UB and Good Customer Support

Lately on a certain forum I have been seeing alot of bashing of UB. Most of it is unfounded and what seems like kids whining. Well I am here to say I am happy with them. Not only did they promptly fix the small problem I had with money being stuck in the “money on table” area of the cashier but for my inconvienence they entered me into a freeroll thursday night( prize money TBA). Now this problem didn’t hinder me any and I considered it small. To me, running a freeroll for such problems is considered above and beyond and makes me a happy camper.

Other News:

  • I had a few more dollars than I had thought and adjusted my records accordingly.
  • To kill time when I do not have enough to play a serious game, I been playing 7 card stud at the .01/.02 limit. This has been really fun. I have not played the game before but glad I have started. I looked up a few tips around the net and asked Pokerben some questions. I made a decent profit today from it so far for that limit, around .50. I look forward to learning more.
