Learning to Crawl Before I Walk

EvilOrly\’s Poker Journey

A HH and a Thought or Two.

First, I been three tabling the last two nights. I got so card dead last night when I was doing two tables I opened a third and it started paying off. So tonight I did the same, I was somewhat card dead tonight with a hand here and there picking up smaller pots, not bad, as long as it goes in the positive. Then I ran into what may be bad luck or bad play, I don’t know but I will post the HH in a minute.

I am also re reading The Theory of Poker and I am understanding it alot better this time around so far.

And onto the HH.

Now I will explain my thought process in the hand. Preflop, A8c. If this was unsuited I would have folded but being so I thought it was worth seeing the flop for flush possibilities. I got my wish, nut flush draw. The board is paired now, the utg checks. I am thinking he has a 9(eveyone slowplays the trips in this level) but I still have another to act behind me and I want to control this pot, so I bet out. I am prepared to fold to a reraise. I get called of course. Another check, and another bet by me that pushes the button out of the hand. Maybe I should have checked the turn? I hate to show complete weakness here with middle pair, nut flush draw, but I could be wrong to do so. SO in my mind I have 9 outs, and two more(8d, 8s) if he is on a flush draw as well. But honestly my read is trips. River comes, I have my nut flush, this time he bets, so I do change my mind from trips to he had a flush as well…king or queen high. So I get all my chips in and see that really all the outs I had were two, the 8’s. A full house never crossed my mind the whole time, GG me.

  1. Just a bad situation. I check the turn though. If the UTG does have the 9 you don’t want to get check raised here. If I was heads up I might bet the turn but with 2 others somebody has something and chances are it’s better than what you have.
